Term 2 , Week 2

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this newsletter finds you well.

My sincere thanks to all who were involved in making the Mothers Day Chapel a success. It was great to see so many families in attendance this morning.

Thanks also to Mel Coorey and the other parents who helped to ensure our Mothers Day Stall was a success and  that we were able to offer this service.

I also know that for many of us, Mothers Day brings up different feelings and for some it’s as much a day of grieving as it is celebration. I pray that the love of Jesus comforts your heart this weekend.

Digital safety

In line with our commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of our students, today we hosted a session on digital safety for our year 5/6 students, and also a separate one just for parents. Led by the experts at YSafe, the session delved into crucial topics such as cyberbullying, responsible app usage, and managing one’s digital footprint. Both sessions were outstanding and I learnt so much both as an educator and a parent, I know our students got so much out of it. My thanks to the 20 or so parents who took the time to attend. For those who couldn’t make it, fret not, as YSafe has generously provided us with a wealth of resources, you can access it by clicking here: ySafe Online Safety Hub Resource  Parents can use this to set up a trial account with their child’s device if they wish.

Property Safety:

I’ve had reports about people speeding through Kiss and Drop in the mornings. Just a reminder to please slow down as you are driving through. I’ve also been informed that some parents are going the wrong way in the carpark. Please go all of the correct way around, so our students can stay safe.

Athletics Carnival

As we gear up for our much-anticipated Athletics Carnival scheduled for this Tuesday, May 14th, I’d like to remind everyone of the logistics. Students in Years 2-6 are expected to arrive at school by 8:30 am. However, for those participating in the 1500m event, please note the earlier start time of 8:15 am. Parents are kindly requested to drop their children directly at the venue for this specific event. Rest assured, the South West Sydney bus run will operate as usual to facilitate transportation. Our K-1’s can arrive at the normal time. An email will be sent the night by 6pm the night before at the very latest, if we have to cancel. Please check your emails!

Please pray for dry weather.

My door is always open.

Joe Britton

Whole School Photos

Our whole school photos will be taken on Thursday 23rd of May. Envelopes for each students has been handed to them in class.

Parents wishing to order sibling photos do not require a sibling envelope if you are ordering online. The ordering code on the parents’ regular envelope can be used for ordering sibling photos as well as standard packs. The envelopes are only required for parents wishing to pay by cash. The cash envelopes can be picked up at the reception.

Please ensure your child has the full correct winter uniform for the photo day.

Bring your instruments to school.

Many students told me last term that they are learning to play an instrument at home and they would love a chance to show me their skills. I will be opening up the music room on Tuesday 21st May from 8:30am – 8:50am and at lunch for students to come and show me their instruments if they wish to.

I would love to give them the opportunity to play something short for me as well. It will be very informal. I will not be providing any training or lessons on the day, rather just an opportunity for me to hear and see what they already know. My hope is that we can open up more opportunities as the year goes by for students to link their home music learning into the school context.

I have a piano in the room for piano students to use if they wish, otherwise all other instruments will need to be brought into school for the day and can be stored securely in the music room store room. Please make sure they are clearly labelled.

Mrs. Britton

School Uniform .

Next week will be our last week of the turnover period . During this time either the complete Summer or the complete Winter uniform can be worn, but not a mixture of the two. Full winter uniform needs to be worn, by 20 May 2024, after these two weeks.

Unfortunately our new winter tracksuit pants are not available yet. All students that do not currently have tracksuit pants can either wear their sport shorts, or if you are worried about the colder weather, they are allowed to wear any plain dark green tracksuit pants without any logos on. The old winter sportswear is still appropriate too.

Currently the uniform shop operates Tuesday to Thursday. However, appointments can be booked on Tuesdays to Fridays during office hours by sending an email to uniforms@hpcs.nsw.edu.au.
